The most common cause for repair that we see with the IRwin SEM meter is the ingestion of debris/liquid through the wand into the meter. In response, Elkins Earthworks has developed a new filtration system for the wand. The new system consists of an in-line particulate filter followed by an in-line water trap inserted into the tubing of the wand. This new system is available for purchase from Elkins Earthworks, and may be retrofitted onto existing wands. We strongly advise IRwin owners to use both an external particulate filter and water trap, at all times. It is also important that all external filters are inspected and replaced frequently. Following these guidelines will lead to fewer repair issues and increase the reliability of the IRwin meter.
